checking out the grass

Here they are, checking out the grass. 4 days old, and STILL cuter than buttons!
I love the expression on the orange chicks face, on the very left.
Getting a little bit more adventurous.

Now you may be thinking, what the heck is the chick in the very middle doing to her wing? well they run their wings thru their beaks to clean them, and I thought maybe you would think "what is that chick doing?" cause thats what I thought too, till I realized what the little fella was doing.

They are very cute! Now, do they get born with down and then get real feathers as they get older?

Yes, they are born with down, and then their wings start to get feathers, and then their tails get tail feathers, then their chest starts to get feathers, and continues on, and when they are 4 months old, they are fully feathered, and start picking out a pecking order of the more dominate one. Which is why banties are fighters, the males are extremely dominate, and when they are put in a small pen with another rooster, that is why one dies, is because they are made to fight to the death, because even when I have had fighting rooster, I have never had any die, because one eventually gives up, because they have space to run away when one gives up. Cause one time, I had 2 buff roosters, and boy did they have red necks, but after a week, they were orange again, and did not fight again after that big battle.

because they picked out who the more dominate one was between the two.
